  1. that first shot is so van gogh-ish… and it shows me how to put dynamism into trees. I find much inspiration in your work!

Hah, so others too spotted the VvG reference!
What I love about your work is how you use a series of images to deconstruct a scene. It’s not drawing for its own sake or to make a pretty picture, rather it’s a process of thought on the page (I think).

    • I do see it as a problem solving exercise – ‘I want to paint that scene and capture what first drew me to it. Now, how am I going to do that?’ Then anything and everything is allowed. I do wish sometimes that this process would nicely lead to a ‘finished’ end piece. However, that may be the ‘pretty picture’ view nagging away. What I have found reassuring recently is Emile Zola’s ‘His Masterpiece’ book. Have you read it? I’ve not seen warhorse but my daughter has – I will ask her about the sets. We watched The Martian last night, which I think ties nicely with my problem solving approach.

  3. That is why I always come back to read long after looking sometimes….this blog is completely unique in allowing us to glimpse your process, as kestrelart described so well.
