  1. Nice drawing but has the painting got a bit overworked or was that your intention?

    • Stay tuned, it gets worse! Not my intention to overwork, but I must have felt that too as I then did the drawing. I’d seen some tom thomson’s this summer and it inspired me to try a more colourful composition with the pine trees that have been featuring heavily in my pictures recently. You’ll note the term ‘crisis’ in the title, that’s a bit of a clue that I wasn’t too happy with where it was going. Perhaps I was trying too many new things at once. Can I ask if you think anything works in the painted version?

  2. I liked the distant grey trees because I love light patterns in woodland – something I want to explore further myself

  3. I like the colors. If you’re concerned about the importance of the line, you could do the color washes first and THEN the line.
