  1. Hi, Just wondered what the title meant? What does two ‘Herberts’ mean or is it their surname? Best, Nicholas.

  2. Oh I like how you combined mediums in this. My eye goes right to the two Herberts. I love the title! Makes me smile.

I love this sketch. It’s a good composition and is full of life and affection.

I’m reading swallows and amazons aloud to one of my Herberts and your drawing has that air of timeless childhood.

    • Treasure the shared reading. Ours has now come to a halt as they are older and I really miss it and the books!

Agreed, first time around, they stopped about 9. It was when the fourth Harry Potter book came out. I started the book, but they nicked it and read it in a siting, the suspense was too much. This time around, my nine year old does not yet read at this level yet so is happy enough to let me give him stories beyond the level he can read for himself. I am going to try to stay ahead as long as I can.

        • We read the Harry Potter’s one after the other. Not the easiest books to read aloud. Doing Dobby’s squeaky voice nearly killed me, I didn’t realise he’d be in it so much. And what a shock when we watched the films – I’d done Hagrid with a Yorkshire accent! We finished on the Lemony Snickett’s.

Reading aloud I have never made it past book 4. The first lot’s reading age overtook JKR’s rate of writing, and this time around I just couldn’t bear reading out book five, the dullest of them all. What I have read aloud recently is Garth Nix’ Old Kingdom series. Such brilliant writing, beats Harry Potter hands down. I’m thinking of Gullivers travels next, maybe Animal Farm. Not sure … That’s a bit grim in the end.

  5. Beautiful and so peaceful!
