These both went in the Christmas fundraising. I quite miss them.

Penguin Modern Classics George Orwell Diaries was a book I really enjoyed reading this summer. Perhaps not to everyone’s taste as a summer read, I became absorbed in his garden entries, shopping lists and to do lists. The blitz also features and we pulled out some excerpts for H’s blitz topic – 20.3.41, 17.4.41 and onion rationing in 22.1.41. Why mention the book now? Well I found a picture of Sean Penn looking like Orwell:

I thought I’d seen him in another life:

Depending on whether I can be bothered to do this again. It’s Paul Vickers and The Leg.

Went to see this exhibition on Sunday with my good friend AP. We got there a bit later than intended and got the 10 minute warning less than half way round, so will need to go back at least once more. Amazing pictures and drawings and lots of inspiration. Thought it linked nicely with some building pictures I’ve been doing and the snaps I’d taken recently around town and in the kashubian potato fields where I walk to work. (The waste ground to work reminds me of the descriptions at the start of The Tin Drum). Rubbish photos I know, but they just show what I’ve been looking at.
